Position Available: Volunteer Building Project Manager
Date: 03 February 2026
A4 Studios CIC is seeking a dedicated volunteer building project manager to lead an ambitious refurbishment and upgrade project. This role may evolve into a paid position, dependent upon future funding success.
About A4 Studios CIC
Introduction
The building itself was originally established as a pioneering engineering manufacturing and innovation company, notable for revolutionising diesel generators and engines, and maintains strong historic links to the local area and canal systems.
Project Overview
Our aim is to refurbish and upgrade the building to achieve both sustainability and environmental friendliness, with a target of Net Zero energy status. Funding is being sought to complete a comprehensive programme of works, enabling us to continue delivering services to the community and celebrating the building’s unique heritage for future generations.
Current Building Condition
The building is currently in a poor state of repair, facing issues such as leaking roofing, structural instability, and damage sustained from storms. Additional challenges include an inadequate electricity supply, lack of insulation, and absence of heating.
Required Works:
-
Updating the electricity supply from a 100amp domestic system to a 400amp 3-phase system, including all necessary internal systems
-
Repairing storm damage from 2024
-
Repointing and rebuilding brickwork
-
Repairing or replacing sections of roofing
-
Fully insulating the building
-
Installing Air Source pumps and radiator heating in all studios and communal areas
-
Fitting solar panels and associated storage batteries and systems
-
Upgrading entrances and facades
-
Improving accessibility for disabled clients and the public
-
Upgrading parking facilities
-
Upgrading CCTV and security systems
-
Insulating all studios
-
Upgrading the fire alarm system
-
All works must be conducted while the building remains open to resident artists and the public. Due to the building’s proximity to the Metrolink and overhead power cables, major works on the east side must be completed overnight and in coordination with Network Rail.
Role Details
The position offers flexibility, with working hours to be determined by the successful applicant during the volunteering period. However, an overall project timeline will need to be agreed. The role is available to start as soon as possible, with volunteer expenses and refreshments provided. The possibility of this becoming a paid position depends on the outcome of grant applications.
Key Responsibilities
-
Establishing a programme of works and agreed timeframe with the directors
-
Obtaining quotes for all required works
-
Liaising with directors regarding grant applications
-
Planning and prioritising works for completion
-
